Intranet Connects Henry County Community

All roads lead to Henry County--interstate highways, country highways and the information superhighway.

Henry County is home to Monarch Village (www.monarch-village.com), a large-scale master-planned development which is utilizing a community Intranet to digitally connect its residents.

"Absent from many of today's subdivisions is the sense of belonging and ownership individuals once felt for their home towns," says Peggy Sullivan, Vice President of Marketing at Pathway Communities. "To address this lack of connectivity, we created a specialized, community-wide Intranet with customized sections for residents to form their own social or hobby groups, trade favorite recipes or chat with their neighbors online."

Kids have their own section devoted to the clubs they decide to establish, along with their own chat room. A community calendar provides updates relating to social or sports opportunities, and residents may search for new acquaintances who share anything from a home state to an alma mater to an interest in gardening. Every resident of Monarch Village enjoys access to this network.

"We are helping people meet their neighbors, plan social activities and just visit on the electronic version of the old front porch," Sullivan explains.

"We know that technology isn't the only answer," acknowledges Sullivan. "For us, technology is a component of a larger effort to give people a real sense of place within the context of their new community."

Pathway Communities is one of the only developers in the U.S. to implement community Intranets in all of its master-planned communities. The company has been recognized by Builder Magazine and Southern Living for its unique approach to community technology.
